Woo-hoo!! My very first machine quilted quilt DONE! 🙂 I took the easy route and quilted diagonal lines across the whole thing, I’m very happy with the end result!
After I basted this quilt (you can read about that here) , I had initially wanted to hand quilt it. I was doing a simple X, from corner to corner, in each square. But with many other projects at hand, I never got around to actually hand quilting it! So it sat in my closet for about a week, and I felt guilty not working on it every time I saw it sitting in there.. With the recipient’s baby on the way SUPER SOON, I knew I had to get a move on with this baby quilt.

I started this project, maybe , two months ago. I planned on doing the quilt, and with the leftover fabric, I made a matching pillow cover. This was before I had my crafty room, so I worked on my living room table with the babies. Often times, working late at night, so the babies slept a lot thru the pillow cover making! 🙂
The front of the pillow cover is quilted with very random, double threaded, chunky stitches. And the back I quilted using a “basket weaving” stencil! I had a lot of fun putting this pillow cover together.

When I was getting ready to machine quilt this, I was prepared for a bumpy road due to it being a 60″ quilt… I have a medium sized Babylock sewing machine with no extension table or a big throat space to shove the quilt through. But to my surprise, I had no trouble with it at all!! 🙂
After ripping out the few hand stitches, I hand quilted forever ago, I started my quilting with a line down the center of the quilt. I worked my way out, so a line down the center, then the following lines outwards. It was fun! 🙂 I’m excited to machine quilt another piece! I finally got the quilting walking foot, and I LOVE IT!

With the power out in my crafty room during Labor Day weekend, I decided to bring in my sewing machine and sew in my dining room table. My babies have NEVER seen my machine sew away at full speed, like I did when I began quilting this baby quilt. So when I was getting ready to start quilting, the babies were playing by my feet; I began to sew and Raymond absolutely freaked out and took off by pushing off of my foot. I hadn’t realized that he had scratched me until a few minutes later when I looked down to get the quilt folded. It didn’t hurt as bad as it looks, but I felt horrible scaring my little Ray like that!
How was the meet and greet between your furr-babies and your sewing machine?
My goodness, my babies took off like a horse on a race track!

I don’t like binding the “right way”, I like to make the backing at least 4 inches wider than my top and fold it over. I fold and iron my “binding” and pin; this binding/ border is a little over an inch.

I can now cross off this baby quilt from my To-Do list! 🙂 I can’t wait to send it off to the Mommy-of-2-to-be! I hope she likes it!
I managed to get most lines straight, but sometimes I did wave a little, hope no one notices! 😛
I forgot to mention, the fabrics used on this quilt were all found at Joann’s; Top and backing fabric is a mix of flannel and “snuggly” fuzzy fabric. 🙂
